April Greetings from Chapter WA-H
April 14th meeting was called to order by C.D. Garry Calmen.  Flag salute was said.  Garry welcomed 31 members in attendance.  Garry announced the completion of the Advanced Rider Course and Ride Educator Course by Randy Reid - congratulations Randy.

The upcoming Chapter C Early Spring Fun Run was discussed - we'll be meeting at Bellingham REI Saturday the 18th, leaving 8:00 to head to Everett.  Information and registration form:  http://gwrra-everett.com/FunRun2009.pdf   Lunch provided by Smokey Point Cycle Barn

The Lime Run in Skagit County put on by GWTA is April 26th, again we will be leaving REI 8:00.  Breakfast at the Burlington Eagles.  BBQ lunch is available for those who pre registered, or you may bring your lunch.

Garry presented the package of Chapter H pins.  He suggested selling them at the July Rally in Lynden.  At the WA Rally, Chapter H is again the Host Chapter and also in charge of the "Walk About".

A decision was made on new Chapter Shirts.  They are a Red Polo Type with a white stripe around the edge of the collar,
short sleeve, and will have the Chapter Logo embroidered on the left in White.
They are available in adult sizes: Adult sizes Men's XS-6 XL / Women's XS-XXL and plus sizes 1X - 2X

The shirt's cost will be right at $23.00 with tax. The Chapter will be paying for the embroidery of the Chapter Logo.  If you weren't at the meeting and want to order shirts please contact Robertson's by April 24. Ron or Betty Robertson 360-988-2305

Region I 50/50 tickets for the Region Couple of the year was sold by Garry - as they had to be turned in soon.

Pam Munro brought to our attention that the "store" has some left over "Go Anywhere Bag" T-shirts from last years Rally.  She offered to give them to anyone who wants to make a donation to the Chapter.

Chet Renskers talked about the importance of having proper riding gear, as he'd just that morning witnessed and helped a man who had a spill and was injured just from a slow fall from his bicycle.

Betty Robertson then gave a short talk about "how to pack light" when traveling on "just the Wing".  She gave ideas how to cut down on things to take.   Pack light, pack sensible.  BUT, do not leave tools or emergency items out.

Ron Robertson is available for giving meetings at company's to advance the "safety of motorcycles".   If your company/business would be interested, please call Ron - 360-988-2305.

You Chapter Newsletter is for everyone - if you have something you want noted in the news letter please contact Kathy renskers@telcomplus.net or 360 332-4765.

David VanKirk asked those who are planning rides this year to please sum up what the plans are: The preplanned rides are on the 2009 Calendar.  If you have further questions and are interested in going, please call those who are listed.  Also, it was discussed to do a weekend ride to Grand Coulee Damn to see the laser light show.  Dates will be decided at a later meeting.

Having a Ride Phone Tree was presented:  A sign up sheet was passed around.  If you wish to be included - please note that there is a responsibility to call others if you are in the middle of the list.  Contact Betty Robertson ronbets@verizon.net  or  Kathy Renskers renskers@telcomplus.net  if you did not get signed up and wish to be.
We need to know what phone number you want used.

The May calendar was discussed: see below - actually - starting this Saturday April 18th our Chapter has a busy riding season planned.   The first Dinner ride starts on May 1st at Good Burger.  The 6:00 Friday night meeting place is changed to the old Cost Cutter parking lot in Lynden.

The May 3rd Show n Shine in Ferndale starts at 9:30, and Motorcycles are welcome to participate.  Contact Paul Ingram for more information:  ing@clearwire.net

May 9th is Maintenance Day at Robertson's 9:AM.  Please bring pot luck lunch fixings.

Color Drawing won by Marcia VanKirk = $10.     50/50 won by Cathy Kellett = $40.50.
Respectfully submitted:  K. Renskers

CD Chatter - - - Garry Calman

The last of March, I, along with Chet & Kathy Renskers, Ray Hunter, Cliff Kamm and Ron Robertson all attended The Rider Ed. Seminar at Buckley and I for one found some very good info on traveling and what things you should be carrying on your bike. Like a tire repair kit, air pump if your bike does not have one and a First Aid Kit. Also there was a good seminar on tires, like under inflation causes greater heat build up then a tire that's inflated to the right presser. I think all of us came away with some new knowledge about motorcycling that we either did not know or had put in the back of our minds.
Then came the spud feed which Judy and I were looking forward too hosting but yours truly came down with the Flu and then Judy got it and it was all I could do to deliver the potatoes on Saturday then went home and back to bed. We are almost back to normal what ever that is.
I would again like to thank Paul and Cathy Kellett for hosting the spud potluck for Judy and I.
I am looking forward to doing some riding this spring and summer which by the way it looks will not be hard to do by the looks of the calendar and with the rides that David Van Kirk has planned out. Good job David, now only if people will take advantage of them. There is no reason for people to say that the chapter has nothing planned as a chapter, just look at our ride calendar. If you do not have your bike serviced and ready for the spring and summer there is going to be a maintenance day May 9th the Robertson's starting at 9:00 AM.  You can check with Ron.  It is bring your own Oil, Filter, Brake fluid and what ever else you want to do.  This is a maintenance Day not an overhaul day.
This Saturday is Chapter C Spring Fun Run out of Everett, we will be leaving out of the parking lot at REI at 8:00 AM.  That should give us plenty of time. They will have breakfast available if you want to eat there. Then the next Sunday April 26 is the Lime Run, again leave REI parking lot at 8:00 AM for Burlington.  Breakfast will also be available at the Burlington Eagles.
May and June are full of rides and things to do so be sure and check our Chapter calendar. One last thing as everyone knows by now, I will be stepping down in September and I sure hope someone will step up to the plate and fill the spot. As I said in my letter, it is only as hard as you make it as a CD.        Garry CD

Rider Educator - - - Chet Renskers  A big Thank you to Betty Robertson for putting together the talk about "packing light" for traveling.

Chapter WA-H had 6 members attend the Rider Ed Workshop in Buckley in March.  Several sessions were immensely informative, one of them being the Emergency Preparedness Session given by Bob Minor.   It was suggested we be prepared to better be able to survive for up to 48 hours beside our Wings.  There will be more information concerning "being prepared" in an upcoming meeting.  Chet
