Hi
all, I have been busy this last month with the District rally and reporting
for our district and looking for new information on the new and improved
membership rider database.
The
district rally was great this year. We had a great time. Got to reconnect with
a lot of folks across the state and made some new friends with a couple from
Virginia. they rode back up with our group from the rally and toured around
with some of us.
I
hope you have been able to get out and ride. I know some of you have but, I
haven’t seen you yet this year. I hope to get the opportunity to ride
with the rest of you before the end of the season. This month is going
to be busy for me at work. I just hope to get a little time to get out and
ride with you this month. I would like to organize another advanced rider
course for those that didn’t get to attend the last one. I will discuss it
at our next meeting.
I
want to remind you that we are doing the Friday dinner rides and Debbie and I
have tried to make as many as possible. If you find yourself with nothing to
do on Friday nights please feel free to join us.
The
rides for this month or the Region I Rally August 4-6 in Driggs, Idaho. Then
there is the Whale of a Picnic with Chapter – O at the Jarstad Park in
Bremerton on August 13. And don't forget the Chapter Z chicken run camp out at
the Matilda Jackson State Park down on the south end of the state.
I
understand that David is planning a camp out trip for us next month. I
think this would be a good time to spend some time together and have fun.

Here’s
some great information on those dreaded round-a-bouts. Should be
required study for every driver out there!!!!
How
to negotiate a traffic trend
that
can really turn you around
In
1995 there were barely a dozen roundabouts in the United States, according
to Round-abouts USA. Now there are more than 2,300. Many states and
communities are using roundabouts as safer, more efficient alternatives to
intersections with stop signs or signals. A roundabout is a low-speed
intersection in which traffic flows continuously around a circular central
island. Studies show that roundabouts significantly reduce crashes and
crash-related injuries as well as decrease traffic congestion. But they can
be confusing. These tips will help you to more easily navigate your next
roundabout.
1.
Slow Down: Roundabouts ease traffic
congestion
because
drivers are not required to come to complete
stops.
So when approaching a roundabout, slow down
and
get your bearings.
2.
Yield before entering: Traffic
flows counterclockwise
in
a roundabout. So regardless of where you enter the
intersection,
traffic should be approaching from your left.
Yield
the right away and then enter when there
is
a safe gap. If there is no approaching traffic, you are
not
required to stop before entering.
3.
Choose your lane: Busier
roundabouts may have two or more lanes. As you approach a two lane
roundabout, look for signs or road markings indicating which lane you should
be in. To make a left turn or a U-turn, be in the left lane or other lanes
marked as left turn lanes. To make a right turn, be in the right lane or
other lanes marked as right turn lanes. To go straight, observe the signs
and markings and choose the lane that shows a through movement.
4.
Keep moving: Once your in the roundabout, stop only to avoid a collision,
and be sure to use your turn signals to let other drivers know when your
exiting the roundabout. Keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists
navigating the intersection.

Something
for the Winger's Shop
Every
Spring we have a Maintenance day and Change fluids, brake ,clutch, coolant
and even maybe put some used oil in a bike. But the last few weeks I have
run into something else we should be doing to avoid trouble later down the
road.
At
home and on a Web site I hang around on I've cleaned up a few
electrical problems that could have easily been avoid. They were. Hazard
flashers not working, turn signal not working, Trouble with intermittent
starting, a C/B that had intermittent Transmission problems and a mute
button that would not release.
The
solution to all the above problems was to simply flush out the
switches/buttons with a good contact cleaner/ lubricant.
I
have found for best results, use the little red tube that comes with the
can of Contact Cleaner, and spray into the switch/button on all sides, top
and bottom, while trying to exercise the switch/button. If it is stuck
spray and work the switch/button till it comes free.
I
used the Cleaner from Radio Shack it's safe for plastic and also contains
a lubricant.
I
like to put a few paper towel around and under the switch/button to catch
the cleaner when it runs out. You will be surprised how nasty some that
stuff is when it runs out.
