Chapter Meeting: 2nd Tuesday each month

6:00 dinner/7:00 meeting - -

Fairway Cafe,1726 Front Street, Lynden, WA

Friday night dinner rides: Friday nights May into September

Meet at the old Cost Cutter parking lot  in Lynden 6:00, leave 6:30 for predetermined destination.

    Father’s Day June 19th

Hello folks,  June has arrived and the weather continues to improve and the calendar is REALLY full.

As always, lots of great events and good fun (and always good food) to partake in as you are able.

Please note that we will not be meeting for breakfast at Rusty Wagon this month.  Saturday the 4th is the Farmer’s Day Parade and we will be meeting at McDonald’s in Lynden at 8 AM to ride as a group to our designated spot for the parade. The forecast is for great weather for the weekend.

After the parade we will be riding up to Ron and Betty’s, and regrouping for a planned ride out and about the county and beyond, and then of course there will be food!!  Join us for the parade or later for the potluck and good company at Ron and Betty’s.

Here is a note from Ron about the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon events:

I talked with the Elliott's  and it looks like there are 5 couples and two women coming down 7 bikes.

Arrival times are going to vary since they are not coming as a group. Some are coming down in the morning, others are leaving around noon and some can't leave till around 5:00 o'clock. We will be having Hot dog and Hamburgers Friday and feeding them as they arrive.  And Pulled Pork Pot luck  for Saturday.

I'd like to know how many are going to be here Friday and Saturday. We need to get a count for the buns, burger and hot dogs.

Please let me know ASAP.

For housing guests  I have.

The Burkes, Kamm's, VanKirks, Erv and the Robertson's. Kirk and  Kathy are bring their camp trailer. So it looks like we got the housing covered. If there is any change again please let me know ASAP., so other arrangements can be made.

Thanks for helping out. Looking forward to this week end

Ron and Betty

A Note From Betty:

THANKS TO ALL
It was wonderful how all of you helped out on maintenance day. Pam, you had lunch going for them and I do believe they were surprised that they did not have to do anything. You did it all
It was a lot of fun watching you all. Dorothy, you now know where the tablecloths are kept. Marcia, you know where to locate the extra silverware. I think Pam knows where everything is after doing all the lunch things. It was great to see Kathy after meeting most of us for the first time get right at home and find steak knives for us all. Edith, you really must be scared of Ron how you had to wash every dish and everything else put away. (He does growl a lot but does not bite.) Many thanks to all of you.
But the best was in the afternoon with all the stories and laughs. I do believe that is great for healing. (That is why I got a good report from the Doctor) Margaret, the plant is wonderful. It is growing and blooming great. (Margaret, they are not etched in gold but I do think of that every time I see them.) Sure am glad you decided to stay Pam. I missed our Wednesday's so that was great.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.
Betty

CD Chatter - - - Randy Reid

Okay! I think we have had enough cool weather. And this rain, oh the rain has got to go. I’m sick and tired of having to put on rain gear to stay dry. That’s it we are leaving for warmer weather and drier skies. I’ve booked a trip to Maui for a week of relief from this rainy cool place. We have come to call home. That’s right Debbie and I will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in Maui. This will most likely be the first dry anniversary we have had in the last 10 years? We Hope! This time of year always seems to be rainy here in Washington. We plan on seeing some new sites and experiencing warmer drier weather.

We have had some good rides lately but they have all been under the threat of rain. For those of you that have joined us you know how lucky we have been to get in some of the rides with little to no rain or just in between showers. I guess this beats the alternative. We could be going through a draught like so many other places. Worrying about having enough water to drink and wash our bikes.

As you know the Advanced Rider Course was cancelled due to an unexpected death in the church family. They needed the church parking lot during the time we were planning on using it for a range. So we will shoot for June 18th that would be the weekend after Debbie & I get back from Maui. If you had planned on attending the Memorial Day weekend ARC I’m holding your spot for you. If you are not going to be able to attend please let me know. I will announce where the class will be as soon as I get conformation on the availability of the classroom and range. Thanks for your patience with this.

As I’m writing this I’m think of the ride this Monday to honor our fallen. I have to think how lucky we are to have been birthed into a country that has such dedication to freedom. And patriots that are willing to give their lives to preserve that freedom. As some of us know there are countries that would not allow us to ride about freely and visit the places that we get to visit. What better encouragement for those serving than for us to take a day out of our year to honor and revere their sacrifice for us all.  I hope you were able to join us as a group to do just that this last Monday.

As you may know the Farmer’s Day parade is coming up I wouldn’t want you to miss it. We will be leaving the MacDonalds in Lynden at 8:30 Saturday morning June 4th. So if you want Macy Dee’s for breakfast you want to get there earlier. If you miss us we will be over in town lining up for the parade I understand there are over 80 groups participating this year hope you can find us.

I want to thank Ron and Betty for organizing and hosting our sister Chapter “G” from Kamloops this year. It looks like it is going to be a fun weekend of fellowship and riding.

We are looking forward to some good dinner rides coming up don’t you’ll forget them I will try to list them all for the next couple of months on the meeting agenda. If anyone has a ride that they are willing to share with the rest of us please let us know so we can get the word out. And if soon enough on the agenda.

So while we are out of town during this meeting you all behave for Rick & Jean, as they will be in charge of the chapter meeting in June. Debbie and I will see you when we get back from Maui.

Something to consider for all drivers, no matter what you may be riding (driving).

It is easy to get complacent and/or distracted as we go about our business.

What if …?

The “What If” game can save your life. Rather than being surprised by left-turning cars, skittish deer, or an old couch in the middle of the road, use your imagination to predict possible hazards and then take measures to minimize them.

·         You see a car parked on the shoulder. “What if it’s not parked, and is actually about to do a U-turn?”

·         You pass an open gate in front of a farmhouse: “What if all the cows got out?”

·         Rounding a corner in the mountains, you see little scraps of tire carcass on the road. “What if there’s a broken-down semi in my lane around this corner?”

bullet

Riding along a road littered with dead deer: “What if there are more waiting to cross?”

bullet

Play the “What If” game continuously as you ride, imagine what could happen and how you would react to it, visualize yourself avoiding the hazard, and keep the rubber side down.

I remember reading about a motorcyclist who was passing under a railroad trestle bridge out west somewhere. A dog crossing the bridge fell through and struck the moving motorcycle. The rider died.  Truth can be stranger than fiction. Use your imagination and play the “What If” game and outsmart all the hazards that life throws your way, even the unusual ones that…

                                                                 “…would NEVER happen to me.”

Motorist Awareness – Ron Robertson

Avoiding Road Rage and Aggressive Driving Incidents Taken from the Washington State Patrol brochure, ( Road rage Aggressive Driving)

1. Always signal when turning or changing lanes.

2.Control your anger, remember it takes two to fight.

3.Avoid prolonged eye contact with bad or angry drivers. Anticipate that angry driver may have a weapon.

4.Get help. Call the police on your cell phone or go to a public telephone or place. Do not pull over to the side of the road.

5.Forget about winning. No one wins in a Highway crash.

6.Allow more time for you trip. Make it relaxing not hurried.

7.Put yourself in the other drivers shoes they maybe driving that way because of an actual emergency.

NEWS FROM OUR TRAVELERS!!

Roading Renskers

Greetings Chapter H - Don't even know where to start this month - it's been a trip that is almost indescribable in so many ways.  We've seen some of the most beautiful country that God could have ever put on this earth.  And we mean all kinds of country from high desert to lush green forests - mile after mile after mile.  Mountains, rolling hills, valleys, rivers, lakes, great lakes, etc.  We've seen and done so many fun things.  Plus dealing with crazy weather - we can hardly describe some of the weather in the South and East - it's different than our West

We seen lots of wild life - Deer, Bears, Raccoons (we have a Raccoon story now), Turkeys, Skunk, Antelope.  We've smelled the Dogwood in bloom, also the Magnolia and wild flowers.  We've met some of the nicest people.  Like when we came out from having lunch and four guys were standing around our Wing and Trailer.  Chet and I slowed down as we walked towards them, they looked harmless - our age and older.  Chet greeted them by saying "$25,000 and it's yours".  They all laughed and that broke the ice.  We ended up standing and talking for a good half hour.  Since we traveled on very "out of the way back roads", they'd never seen a Wing and Trailer like that.  Wanted to know all about it.  Almost afraid we'd have to set up the trailer for them to see it all.  Didn't - but they sure wanted to know details.

Last couple of weeks we have been visiting family in Michigan and Minnesota and expect to be at the Wyoming Gold Wing Rally by June 16th in Riverton.  That next week we'll be seriously heading home.  Hope to be home by the following weekend - unless we find something else to see and do.

We particularly have two new friends - the owner of the "Motorcycle Ironhorse Lodge, Cabins, and Campground" in North Carolina (where we stayed a couple of nights) and his good friend are riding their bikes to California and then heading North all the way to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.  They are hoping to look us up in Blaine on their way North.  We told them if they are with us on the 4th of July to expect to ride in a parade.  Got an email from them a week ago, and they are going to try and make it.  Certainly want to meet as many of you as we can get together for a "Paso Del Norte" Mexican dinner in Blaine.  Please keep your Email and phone lines open during that time.

Take care, and as we're all saying "Keep the shiny side up".  Love, Chet and Kathy
