To start - I would like to say a "big Hello" to everyone who receives the newsletter. April was some what of a good month for riding. To start, 6 bikes with nine members going went to Chapter C's Spring Fun Run. It was a good ride with several of us winning door prizes and I did win 3rd place Grand Prize which was a real nice Emergency Road Kit. Then came the GWTA Lime Run with 12 bikes and 21 members and one guest. It was a good Run as it came up to Whatcom County. We were within a few miles one way or another from several of our members residents. The weather was cool but no rain, thank goodness. May is a very busy month with several things all ready passed and some good riding and rallies to come. Want to say Thanks to Ron Robertson for opening up his big shop for Maintenance day on the 9th. And both Betty and Ron for the BBQ Pot Luck later that day. Coming up: May 15 - 18, Victoria Days in Kalowna, B.C.; The 22-25th Chapter L Desert Spring Fling at the Benton County Fairgrounds Kennewick, WA. Judy and I will be attending that Rally. Then we will be leaving there and will be gone for 3 weeks. We will not be at the Farmers' Day parade and Rick will be taking over the June Meeting. May 25th is the Chapter H Memorial Day Ride. May 29th garage sale set up and the 30th is the Sale at the Browns. June 6th will be the Farmers Day Parade and Ron and Betty Robertson's Anniversary party afterwards at their home. Garry CD
P.S. Note from Garry and Judy: Garry and I would like to thank our wonderful gracious Chapter for the gift of our Chapter Shirts. It's very heartbreaking to leave the directorship but feel it is time. So, Thank you so much to each and every one of our Chapter members, it is so appreciated and especially for all the support that we have received through out the three years. We don't know how to repay all of you. We have enjoyed our time and getting to know everyone. Again, many many THANKS - Garry & Judy
In Honor of Memorial Day - - by Judy Calman My Country My Country 'Tis of thee Sweet land of liberty Of thee I sing - - - How those words strike me. It means so much to me to be able to move from area to area, state to state and so forth - The Freedom that we take for granted. Being deprived of being able to salute or sing any patriotic songs as a child, it is such a great joy to sing our country's songs and salute our free flowing flag. It is everything an American should be proud of doing. As Memorial weekend approaches, may we be so aware of the many persons, be it male or female, who have given their all or have served their time in the armed forces for our freedom so that we can proudly sing our country's song "America". So, thank a veteran and be proud of America - - even if she is going through a rough time. Also I'm so thankful that I can pray openly to a God for our Country. So let Freedom Ring not just this up coming Memorial Day but everyday. Thank you Veterans, we are so proud of your bravery. Judy Calman
Rider Educator - - - Chet Renskers Chapter WA-H had 6 members attend the Rider Ed Workshop in Buckley in March. Several sessions were immensely informative, one of them being the Emergency Preparedness Session given by Bob Minor. It was suggested we be prepared to better be able to survive for up to 48 hours beside our Wings. No matter where, we might have land slides blocking highways, wild fires, earthquakes, snow, wind, and even in a city - an earthquake may have us stranded on a roadway that is impassable for "emergency vehicles to get to us". (As In CA a few years ago.) We need to be able to survive for a day or two until help can arrive. What starts out to be a "lunch ride" to Winthrop might turn into days worth of survival mode. Thus, Kathy showed at the meeting an emergency kit with "5 year" water pouches, energy bars, and space blankets that she put together to be kept on the Wing. (This is over and above the First Aid Kit.) The Water Pouches were a problem finding in Bellingham, thus we ordered a case - good for 5 years. Enough for any in the Chapter interested in wanting some. Cost with shipping is 75 cents each pouch. It was recommended keeping two on your Wing for each rider - enough to sustain up to 48 hours. If you are interested in purchasing - please let either of us know. renskers@telcomplus.net 332-4765. 2 water pouches/$1.50 or 4 water pouches/$3.00. Good through March 2014. (I wouldn't hesitate drinking or using that water in years to come if that was what I had.) Below are some web sites that have the water packets/pouches that are good for five years, and also the high energy bars available to order. (Please note if ordering the water pouches, shipping cost is almost as much as the pouches.)
Web Master - - - Jeff Kelton
Keep checking our
Chapter Web Site - Jeff keeps it up-dated routinely.
Also, if you don't
get the chapter Newsletters, check the web site, as Jeff gets it
on in a few days.
Special Interests - - - Notes: You will see a bit of change on the newsletter. Last month seemed to be a problem getting it delivered to many - specially on Comcast. So, I took off the flags at the top and streamed lined it. Also, changing the format from "meeting minutes" to "meeting notes". The new "Chapter Roster" is ready to send out after this newsletter. This roster is ONLY the names, addresses, phone numbers, and Emails of active Chapter members - not all GWRRA Members in our area. This also includes active Canadian GWRRA friends of Chapter H, and also active Associate members. If you are a GWRRA member and wish to be on this roster, please contact me. Due to liability issues, I need to hear from you directly. This list is what our Web Master, uses in the "Members" folder on the Web site. KR
