Happy
Harvest, Happy Halloween
Chapter
notes:
So
fall arrived with a roar and the leaves are changing color and the sunny
days are few and far between. Every day is a bit shorter and you just
never know what we might get for weather. We can continue to
expect a day of good riding here and there, but those will be hard to plan
ahead!
There
are still activities on the calendar and we encourage you to come out for the
fun and fellowship, and of course—pretty much always food!!
The
2012 planning meeting will be coming up soon. We will need lots of input
for dinner rides and other activities for 2012. Have you found a special
place you would like to share? Another restaurant that needs to be
reviewed? Plan ahead to bring your ideas.
Hope
I haven’t missed anything. If I have, let me know and we’ll get a
message out or fix it for next time!!

So
here we are the end of the riding season. What a crazy season with the
weather. We had to dress for the moment and pack extra for the weather
forecast. I'm surprised we had the rides that we did this year. It just
seems we all had other things to do. Some of us got to ride together in small
groups. We made a couple of the big rides and participated in the Blaine
parade. And this was our first year at being CD. We have learned a little
about what other chapters are doing and are starting to get the feel for
leadership in our Chapter. Speaking of our Chapter I feel we are on track and
I don't have any big plans to make any changes at this time. We have had
several of our riders take part in the advanced rider courses we have had here
in our own area. Most of you have expressed to me that you left with new found
knowledge. I want to thank you for sharing that with me. As that gives me
encouragement to keep up the effort to teach as many as possible.
Just so you know I had the opportunity to travel down to Buckley last weekend
and assist in performing an Advanced Rider Course down there. Yes it was a
good one we had 11 riders. It is always fun teaching with Randy Davis. Or the
other Randy as we both like to refer. Speaking of Buckley I want to remind you
that this year’s leadership conference is coming up at the end of the month.
We want to encourage all of you to participate in the leadership conference
this October 29th in Buckley. It gives you a good idea what it takes to be a
leader in the organization on all levels. And we are already working on the
classes that will be presented for rider education coming up in February. I
will be teaching a couple of the classes there next year.
Now you may have already heard Debbie and I will not be at the Oct. 8th
mystery ride as we will be getting training at the Region rider education
training in Pendleton Or. as your Assistant District Educators. I'm sorry we
will miss this as it promises to be quite the event. I hope many of you show
up for this as I have someone that will be there to meet you and take you on
the ride. So enjoy we'll be learning while you are riding.
I want to thank all our current officers for working in their offices and
doing such a great job. You have all represented your offices well this year
and I'm hoping you are all looking forward to the next riding season. I am. We
do have some officers that would like to retire and give someone else an
opportunity to serve in their stead. So is there a special gift you have
in service that you can share with your fellow riders? I will cover the
officers that will be stepping down in our next meeting and asking for fresh
volunteers to take their places. I really hope and pray that we will have
their offices filled by the end of the year so we start the year out with a
full staff locked and loaded for fun, safety and knowledge.
I have also been doing some research this year on some of the different rides
and hope to have some good ride suggestions for next year. I'm looking for
your input this year during the planning meeting. So be looking up those
places you have been and want to share with others or that special place you
want to go and have not made it for whatever reason. Maybe with a little help
from your friends we will make it together. We need to start talking
about our next riding season. If we want to have a good one with lots of
excitement we need to be chatting it up for the next couple of weeks before
the planning meeting. I want us to all participate in the planning meeting as
these riders are for all of us.
See
you at the next meeting. Your CD's, Randy & Debbie

Road
Gorp:
We
all know that road surfaces can become slick when it starts to rain.
Roads in town will be even slicker that the super slabs. The heavy
concentration of traffic in town causes a buildup of motor oil, antifreeze,
and exhaust residues on the road surfaces. When it first starts
raining the roads can become very slick during the first few minutes.
It takes about a half hour of a steady downpour to wash the road surface. So
when it
Starts
to rain beware of ROAD GORP!
BE
AWARE AND RIDE SAFE.

Here’s
a note Ron sent out a few weeks ago. Something everyone should
be aware of and pass on:
Subject:
Road Hazard
Just
a Heads up on what appears to be some New Payment marking at The Smith and
Guide intersection. Made a left turn from Smith onto the Guide heading
South yesterday afternoon, half way through the turn the Wing got real
Squirrelly. Couldn't stop to check it out because of traffic. However on
the way out of town I pulled into the Chevron Station on the S.E. corner
to have a look. Looks like new plastic stripes at the intersection. Been
through that intersection many times on the wing never any problem till
yesterday.
